Cooking, Creating & Growing Confidence School Holiday Days
Ages 10–16
School holidays can be long — especially when kids are saying “I’m bored” by day two.
That’s where Cooking, Creating & Growing Confidence comes in.
These school holiday days are all about getting young people off screens and into real life by cooking together, creating things with their hands, learning practical skills, and spending time with other great humans their age.
Across the day we’ll cook our lunch together, try hands-on challenges, learn a few clever life skills, and build confidence without it feeling like school.
It’s relaxed.
It’s welcoming.
And yes… it can get a little messy (in the best possible way).
No pressure. No awkward stuff.
Just a really good day where young people get to try things, learn things, and realise they’re more capable than they think.
Runs 8am – 4pm
Morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea included.
Because confidence doesn’t magically appear - it grows through doing.
Tuesday and Thursday of both weeks for April School Holidays at Monash Community Inn, Clayton Road, Clayton.
What to expect at a Cooking, Creation & Growing Confidence Sessions:
🍳 Cooking Together
Food always brings people together.
During the day participants will cook and prepare their own lunch as a group. It’s a fun, practical way to learn kitchen skills, teamwork and independence — and yes, eating what you’ve made yourself always tastes better.
🎨 Hands-On Creating
This is not a sit-and-watch kind of day.
Young people will take part in hands-on creative activities where they get to build, make, design or experiment with different ideas. The focus isn’t perfection — it’s about trying things, being creative and having a go.
🧠 Practical Life Skills
There are plenty of things young people need to learn that don’t always get taught at school.
Across the day we’ll weave in simple life skills — things that help build independence, problem-solving and confidence in everyday situations.
Nothing heavy. Just practical skills that make young people feel capable.
🤝 Connection & Community
One of the best parts of the day is simply spending time with other young people.
Through games, shared activities and conversations, participants get the chance to meet others their age, build friendships and feel part of something positive.
Heroes of Today is all about creating spaces where young people feel comfortable being themselves.
🌱 Growing Confidence
Confidence isn’t something that appears overnight — it grows when young people try things, solve problems, and realise they’re more capable than they thought.
Throughout the day, participants naturally build confidence as they:
• Try new things in a safe, supportive environment
• Work together and learn how to collaborate with others
• Solve little challenges and figure things out for themselves
• Develop independence through practical skills like cooking and creating
• Share ideas and contribute in ways that feel comfortable for them
• Celebrate small wins — whether it’s mastering a new skill, finishing a creation, or simply giving something a go
There’s no pressure to be perfect here. The goal is simply to have a go, learn something new, and leave the day feeling proud of what they’ve done.
Because confidence doesn’t come from being told you can do something —
it grows when you realise you actually can.
Sometimes all it takes is one good day for a young person to start seeing the hero in themselves.
